Advice & Tips

Outdoor weddings on K'gari (Fraser Island) are simply beautiful – no matter what the season. Here are some more handy hints to make sure your wedding on K'gari (Fraser Island) is unforgettable.

  • What angle will the sun be at for the ceremony? Our resort staff will be able to let you know what the best options are at your preferred venue.
  • Checking the sunrise and/or sunset time will help your photographer plan your photos. The golden afternoon light in the wallum (directly in front of the resort) makes for stunning pictures.
  • Ask your coordinator about wind conditions and forecasts when you arrive at the venue - just so you're prepared on the day. We'd also suggest you steer clear of light fabrics with your dresses and that you let your guests know the ceremony is outdoors. And don't forget to tell your hairstylist you're having an outdoor wedding on K'gari (Fraser Island).
  • One of the advantages of an outdoor wedding is the natural beauty surrounding you - lessening your need to decorate.
  • Check the tide timings (Note: Waddy Pt for Eastern Beach, Urangan for western side) to ensure you make the most of beach conditions on your day.
  • Back-up venue locations. We have a number of fabulous indoor locations in and around the resort should Mother Nature not behave on the day.
  • Make your guests comfortable - if you're getting married in the warmer months - perhaps your ushers could give out bottled water so they could cool themselves. Don't forget to have plenty of sunscreen on hand too.
  • Will all your guests be able to hear the vows? Your Wedding Coordinator will be able to help source a small sound system if needed.
  • If you're getting married in Fraser Island's Great Sandy National Park (Kingfisher Bay Resort is private property) then make sure you have the paperwork filed for any necessary permits well in advance with Queensland Parks and Wildlife.
  • Note current Queensland Parks and Wildlife regulations prohibit the throwing of rice, confetti or non-native flower petals on K'gari (Fraser Island). A bridal bouquet, with non-native flowers, is allowed at the resort – however this needs to either be taken with the bride on departure from the island or disposed of correctly.
